Festival of Stocks #35
Welcome to Festival of Stocks #35. I am happy to be posting nearly twenty worthwhile blog posts related to Stock Analysis, Market Analysis, Personal Investing, etc from the previous week. Five Percent Stocks is a blog with a simple purpose: Pick stocks that will return 5% in one month or less. I’ve had good success since sharing my posts back in November 2006. I’ve also tried to create some basic free resources for investors including a simple foreign stocks search engine and a RSS aggregator of social stock picks sites/blogs. I hope these are of use to other individual investors.
STOCK ANALYSIS
Microsoft To Buy (Swallow) Yahoo…Again? Please, God, No. at 24/7 Wall St.
It is kind of scary if you think about it. Could a Yahoo! acquisition finally bring life the Microsoft’s online game? Henry Blodget thinks not. In fact, he thinks its Microsoft that should be shopping MSN to Yahoo!

SIRI: Merger Speculation Hurts Sirius Stock at Investor Trip
I have no idea why this merger hasn’t been approved yet. Anyway, Dartmouth’s own TJP is hurting on Sirius, but hasn’t given up hope. I’m not sure he’ll be out of the house of pain before his stop-loss, but let’s hope so.

Is Overstock.com misrepresenting inventory? at FRAUDfiles
Tracy follows up last week’s Overstock festival submission with yet another worrisome article about Overstock. After an in-depth review of the company’s 10K, she has an interesting question about the numbers representing the company’s inventory.

Stock Screening Jackpot - Ceradyne Inc. at Investment Jungle
Investment Jungle seems incredulous that its screener can still turn-up underpriced stocks - but then there’s Ceradyne - a great ceramic products company with a value of $97.57 according to the post.

Ultimate 2007 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting Guide at Fat Pitch Financials
Couldn’t attend the BRK annual meeting? Fearless Festival Leader George at Fat Pitch is helping bring as many Internet resources on the meeting together as he can. Fantastic resource for all investors.

Baldor Electric (BZ) at Stock Picks Bob’s Advice
Bob bought (BEZ) on strong earnings and bullish technical indicators. As this one appreciates, Bob believes the large number of shorts will be squeezed out and this one will run. Be sure to check out the follow-up, posted after a cynical reader brought up some interesting points.

An Offering For The Longs- Kaman Corporation (NASDAQ: KAMN) at Five Percent Stocks
One of my own postings here, but one I think you’ll be happy you read. Kaman is a great aerospace subcontractor that had a stellar quarter for its cyclical downtime. Take a look at what I have to say and let me know what you think.

MARKET ANALYSIS
Strength and Weakness at stockbee
Like myself, Pradeep thinks we are in a very deceptive market right now. He takes a look at the run-up movement after a stock breaks-out and see a trend that indicates an impending correction. A unique look.
Excellent Industry Analysis at stockbee
Pradeep shares with us a great industry analysis spreadsheet. It contains group moments and how it has evolved over a period of year. It is color coded ( which the Google Spreadsheet does not show), so at one glance you get a view of the sector trends.
Dwindling Participation in the Recent Large Cap Rally at TraderFeed
Brent Steenbarger shows how the Large Cap rally is beginning to lose its depth. He sees consolidation as the likely outcome, however, not a sharp drop in value.
PERSONAL INVESTING
How 3% Can Make a 2 Million Dollar Difference in Your Portfolio at Project Stocks
I am a firm believer in attempting to ‘beat the market.’ Over at Project Stocks makes a good case as to just how much of an impact this can have on your portfolio.
Top 5 Unknown Dividend Plays at Dividend Money
Here are 5 Dividend Growth stocks that are currently flying under the radar.

5 Tips For Creating A Solid Investment Plan at The Digerati Life
When you first begin investing, it is very easy to be tempted by ‘opportunities’ that veer you away from your investment plan. It is so crucial to develop a strong plan that you believe in and stick to it. These five tips give some general advice to help you map it out. For those of you with plans in place - most of you I assume - you may be reminded of something you meant to be doing or be jolted back into a more disciplined approach to investing.

Unconventional Use of Moving Averages at Trader’s Narrative
Babak shows us how his unique view at Moving Averages helped identify trading signals. It’s a pretty easy set-up that may be worth back testing on some of your favorite stocks.
Why Sarbanes-Oxley is not sending companies to London at Sox First
Economic experts have found that Sarbanes-Oxley has not produced an exodus of companies to London. It’s just a case that here are simply fewer companies of the type that would typically pursue an NYSE listing.
Interactive Brokers and the OpenIPO at DC’s Personal Finance and Stock Investing Blog
This is a great, practical, explanation of different types of IPOs - with an OpenIPO with a Dutch Auction. The author details the steps to his acquisition of Interactive Brokers shares last week.

Can you really get free and objective investment advice, when you pay investment sales loads? at The Skilled Investor Blog
Shall we all be postmodernists and proclaim that objective advice, of any kind, is impossible? I suppose that would make this article pointless. I also suppose there are few postmodernists in the market… cynics on the other hand…
ETF Options as Proxies — Easier Said Than Done at Seeking Alpha
Roger Nusbaum shares his trepidation on using ETF options as proxies.
Payroll Employment Report and the Birth/Death Model at A Dash of Insight
Jeff Miller does a fantastic job looking at the Payroll Report and how the Birth/Death model has improved estimates. A great look at this crucial statistic for investors - even for non-economists
